Website Mandate Media

Start Date: Opening effective immediately

Schedule: Full-time, with occasional evenings and weekends as clients require

Compensation: $38,000 to $40,000 depending on experience. Excellent benefits.

Location: Portland, Oregon (though working remotely during pandemic)

Who we are: Mandate Media is a progressive political consulting firm specializing in digital strategy and services. We help Democratic political candidates and progressive advocacy groups integrate their strategy with technology. We design and build websites. We provide interactive campaign tools. We advise on and manage our clients’ social media and digital advertising. We help our clients build big email lists, engage those audiences in activism, and raise lots of money. Our clients are changing the world, and we help them win.

What’s the job? We are looking for a detail-focused and task-oriented associate to collaborate with our strategists in serving our clients – political campaigns and social change organizations.

This job is a great entry point for someone who wants to learn how digital strategies and tactics can make a meaningful impact in winning elections and changing the world.

Our team is looking for someone who is able to manage competing priorities and lots of details in a demanding (but very rewarding) environment. You will be an integral part of our team, working with your colleagues to provide excellent customer service to our clients.

This is a full-time job in a well-respected firm. Since 2001, we’ve worked for over 300 clients in 31 states, and you’ll help us grow. Each day will be different, and you’ll be using your skills to help change the world and build a more just, equitable, and progressive America.

Specifically, job tasks will include partnering with our lead strategists to:

  • Produce our clients’ broadcast emails, perform quality control checks, coordinate approvals, and send them out.
  • Generate performance reports on our clients’ email programs.
  • Join our strategists on client calls and track the details, including managing content calendars.
  • Stay on top of deliverables and ensure our team is getting things to clients on time.

Skills required: We don’t expect you to know how to do all this today, but we do expect you to be excited to learn these skills and technologies. As the last step in our publishing workflow, the ideal candidate will be VERY detail-oriented and comfortable with the responsibility of pushing “send” on emails to hundreds of thousands of people at a time. A basic comfort level with handling data in spreadsheets is critical. Experience in HTML or email broadcasting tools is a plus but not required. Tasks will come fast and furious, so adaptability and time-management skills are critical.

What you’ll learn: You’ll have an opportunity to be right in the middle of the action for a digital shop that works on numerous high-profile campaigns across the country. You’ll learn how to use digital strategies and tactics to engage audiences, raise money, and win campaigns. You’ll spend your days at the intersection of art and science, content and data, technology and design. You’ll get up close and personal with an industry-leading digital advertising program. At Mandate Media, we’ve been inventing the future of political campaigns for 20 years – and you’ll be right in the middle of it.

Who are we looking for? The right person will be enthusiastic about joining a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Our ideal candidate is an organizational mastermind able to handle a vast array of details, has a knack for managing tough personalities and competing demands, and is comfortable working in a team environment. (And these days, working productively in a remote environment.) As always, we’re looking for someone who is smart, fast, flexible, creative, and happy.

We’re looking for a self-starter who wants to expand their skills, take on tough challenges, and make this job their own. Experience in political campaigns (including volunteering) is a plus, but not required – but a passion for making the world a better place is a must.

Compensation: $38,000 to $40,000 depending on experience. Generous health insurance benefits, including dental, vision, and alternative care. Generous paid-time-off package and retirement matching plan.

How to apply: Please send a letter of interest, resume, and short writing sample to Carrie Wynkoop at [email protected]

Process: This position is open until filled, but we are moving quickly. We will review applications as they arrive starting April 5. Once we receive your materials, we’ll contact you about the next steps in the process, including interviews which will begin the week of April 12. If you have any questions, email [email protected] No calls, please.
